New participants are always in demand: many positions need to be filled to allow governance to function effectively. All positions have a limited term, so we are always looking for people to fill the vacancies.

Vice-Chair of Council - 1 Vacancy

One faculty member for a one-year term

Vice-Chair of Council - Mandate (PDF)

  • The Vice-Chair of the Council shall be elected from the members of the Council for a one-year term. The Vice-Chair is the Chief Teller and Chief Returning Officer for all elections.
  • The Vice-Chair normally assumes the Chair in the following year.
  • Should the position of Vice-Chair become vacant prior to the end of the normal term, an election shall be called.
  • Should the Vice-Chair-elect resign prior to the beginning of her/his term of office, an election for Vice-Chair shall be called.
  • The Vice-Chair presides over meetings of the Committee of the Whole.

 

Academic Policy and Planning Committee - 1 Vacancy

Academic Policy and Planning Committee - Mandate

The Academic Policy and Planning Committee will normally meet the third Wednesday of each month (September - June) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room N926N, Ross Building.

Membership
Seven faculty members elected at-large for a three-year term
Two students appointed by the Student Council of the Liberal Arts & Professional Studies on an annual basis

Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies Representative on the Academic Policy, Planning and Research Committee of Senate
Chair of Faculty Council or designate
Staff Representative from the Strategic Planning Unit

Faculty members will be elected at-large for a three-year rolling cycle. Members elected at-large will not be from the same Department/School. Each year, one-third of the membership turns over and will be replaced on a rotational basis by other faculty members from Departments/Schools who are not already represented on the Committee. At all times there shall be at least one member from each of the professional, humanities, and social sciences Departments/Schools

The Chair of the Committee is selected by the voting members of the Committee for a two-year term. At least half of the voting members of the Committee, the majority of whom are full-time faculty members, constitutes a quorum.

Tenure and Promotions Committee - 5 Vacancies

Tenure and Promotions Committee - Mandate

The Committee normally meets several times during the months November to June in three rotating panels at the Senate Review Committee. The Committee of the Whole normally meets on Thursdays four to five times a year.

Membership
15 faculty members elected at-large, all of whom shall have tenure, normally at least three of whom are professors or senior lecturers for a three-year term.

Six students appointed by the Student Council of the Liberal Arts & Professional Studies on an annual basis

Faculty members will be elected at-large for a three-year rolling cycle. Members elected at-large will not be

other faculty members from different Schools/Departments who are not already represented on the Committee. At all times there shall be
at least one member from the professional, humanities, and social sciences Departments/Schools, and at least one member from an
interdisciplinary program. Units will self-identify as one of the following: humanities, social science, professional studies,
or interdisciplinary, reported to the Council Office by January 1.

The Faculty Committee will elect a Chair from among its tenured faculty members. The Committee will meet at least twice per year. At
least one from each of the three areas humanities, social science, and professional studies and is at least half of the voting members of
the Committee, the majority of whom are full-time faculty members, constitutes a quorum.

Teaching, Learning & Student Success Committee - 2 Vacancies

Teaching, Learning & Student Success Committee - Mandate

The Committee on Teaching, Learning and Student Success will normally meet on the first Monday of each month (September - June) from 11:30am to 1:00pm in Room N926N Ross Building.

Nine full-time faculty members elected-at large for a three-year term
Two graduate teaching assistants elected at-large on an annual basis
One contract faculty member elected at-large on an annual basis
Three students appointed by the Student Council of the Liberal Arts & Professional Studies on an annual basis

Committee on Research Policy and Planning - Mandate

The Committee on Research Policy and Planning will normally meet the fourth Monday of each month (September - June) from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Room N926N, Ross Building.

Typically, we are short of participants, so all applicants and nominees will be acclaimed. In an instance where this is not the case, a vote decides.

The balloting will be conducted through the facility of the Office of the Faculty Council via an e-vote. Nominees’ full name and their department/school will appear on the ballots. All members of the Liberal Arts & Professional Studies Faculty Council shall be eligible to vote via e-vote. Provisions will be made for those who are unable to vote online.
