On May 14, 2015, Council approved the creation of an Ad Hoc Committee on the Governance of the Faculty of LA&PS. The objective of this Ad Hoc Committee is to recommend to Council how best to strengthen democratic, inclusive, accountable and collegial governance of the Faculty. This Ad Hoc Committee will achieve its objectives through consultations, reflection, and study of existing rules, procedures and practices within the Faculty.

The Committee shall be comprised of a total of nine (9) Council members:
- Six (6) full-time Faculty members, with at least one from each of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Professional Programs.*
- One (1) contract Faculty member.
- Two (2) students [one (1) undergraduate and one (1) graduate student] from across LA&PS, who do not currently serve in an elected capacity on LA&PS Faculty Council Executive Committee.
*who are not the Chair of Council, members of the Executive Committee, Dean, or an Associate Dean.
Election of Committee members shall be by secret ballot of the Council membership, following its normal procedures. There shall be a ten day open nomination period, with candidates submitting a brief statement of their qualifications and interest, followed by a ten day on-line voting period. The nomination and voting process shall be conducted by the Secretary of Council, assisted by the Chair of Council. The elected members of the Committee shall be announced at the next Council meeting. The Secretary of the Council shall be asked to serve as Secretary of the Committee.

The Ad-Hoc Governance Committee will normally meet on the third Wednesday of each month (November - June) from 10:00am to 1:00pm in Room N926N, Ross Building:
